I had the pleasure of designing a dining room for a friend and classmate also in the RISD Interior Design Program, as he did for me. Although it was a design that had never come to fruition it is one of my favorites, the simplicity spoke volumes. The key objective was to visually increase room size, allow for "buffet-traffic",(for entertaining),incorporate natural and sustainable products, but keep it warm and inviting. Originally when deciding the layout I had planned to use banquette seating, after doing a virtual walk through, (technology rules!), it felt too cumbersome. By replacing the banquette seats with an armed chinoiserie chair and using a lighter bamboo on the ceiling those goals were achieved. The furniture pieces that I suggested were inspired by a childhood memory derived from my design questionnaire.
